The shift towards a more plant-based diet is becoming increasingly popular in today’s diet culture. If you find yourself with CKD patients asking how to incorporate more plant-based foods then this is the handout for you! This colorful handout highlights 10 groups of “staples” to keep for a plant-based pantry. Topics include:
- Legumes
- Grains
- Nuts & Seeds
- Fats
- Condiments
- Sweeteners
- Canned Goods
- Plant-milk
- Flours (for the bakers!)
- and Spices
Handout also includes a few additional tips, like trying 1 new spice each month, and even additional foods that can be kept on hand to help whip up a quick and easy meal! As always, it is important to individualize education for the patient so included on the handout is a note indicating that the items on the list are not necessarily low in potassium, encouraging further consult with a Renal Dietitian if needed.
No need to recreate the wheel, save time by downloading this handout from the Renal Education Library or by going to RD2RD.com
