Can patients eat DURING dialysis treatments? Yes of course!
We know it's a challenge to maintain good nutrition status and diet during dialysis, especially when treatments take up a big part of our patients' day. However, it's also a chance to sneak in a nourishing snack for some mealtime normalcy and better nutrition.
While there are risks like postprandial hypotension and hygiene concerns, studies show the benefits outweigh them:
- Improved nutrition
- Less catabolism
- Better quality of life
As dietitians, it’s our responsibility to guide patients to a safe diet during dialysis.

2. Revamped Bulletin Boards: Our bulletin boards this year feature a brand new format that is much simpler and takes less than 30 minutes from printing, cutting, to putting it up on the board!
This month's bulletin board "Love-ly Snacks While at Dialysis" features our monthly topic PLUS Valentine’s Day decorations to usher in the month of love.
3. New Meal Plans Monthly(!): Our patients LOVE meal plans! For February, it's the "Whole Foods Minimal Cooking for Dialysis" plan—easy, delicious, and nourishing recipes -- some of which are perfect to enjoy during dialysis.
4. Game: A fun activity to facilitate active learning during treatments or to bring home!
