Nutrition Recommendations for Athletes with CKD & Dialysis
Review current research and practical strategies for supporting exercise, training, and recovery in active patients with CKD and dialysis.
Cost: $35

Why this course
Renal dietitians are experts at helping patients manage protein, potassium, phosphorus, sodium, and fluid intake. But what happens when that patient is also training for a marathon, competing in CrossFit, lifting weights four days a week, or asking whether creatine is safe?
There are currently no formal nutrition guidelines for athletes with CKD. Sports nutrition recommendations often encourage higher protein intakes, hydration strategies, and electrolyte replacement, while CKD nutrition requires us to carefully balance many of those same recommendations. Knowing how to bring those two worlds together can be challenging.
During this roundtable, we’ll discuss how to:
- Adapt sports nutrition recommendations for CKD and dialysis
- Individualize protein, fluid, electrolyte, and creatine recommendations
- Apply the available evidence while recognizing where clinical judgment is essential
As always, you’ll leave with a practical clinical framework covering energy, protein, fluids, sodium, potassium, carbohydrates, and creatine, giving you a ready-to-use reference the next time an athletic or highly active patient with CKD or dialysis walks into your clinic.
